Project Description
Eodyne and RGS at EU Ageing Sumit
Monday, 9 March 2015 – 10:00am
Eodynes‘s innovative Technology RGS for the rehabilitation of patients after stroke was invited to exhibit at The Summit on Innovation for Active and Healthy Ageing. 9 -10 March 2015, Brussels.
This EU Summit on Ageing aims to “Engage Europe’s policy, services, and market leaders to co-create a shared vision on how Europe can address the challenges and seize the opportunities arising from demographic change through ICT and innovation and in that way contribute to economic recovery“.
The Rehabilitation Gaming System (RGS), is a new integrated science-based approach towards the training of the brain, based on a theory of the brain called Distributed Adaptive Control from which fundamental principles for recovery were extracted (Paul Verschure and SPECS).
RGS is a fully developed product (platform and training protocols), and has already been tested in clinics and in at home settings and is being commercialized by Eodyne Systems a newly launched UPF-ICREA spin-off company. Eodynes is presently processing the certification of RGS conforming with European legislation on medical devices. The commercial version of RGS will be launched in the second quarter of 2015.
The core of the RGS technology is a proprietary software package that has been developed based on many years of collaboration with scientists, clinicians and above all stroke patients. RGS provides individualized virtual reality-based training for its users helping them to optimally recover function and well-being. RGS comprises an expanding library of clinically validated protocols for the neuro-rehabilitation of motor deficits, affective disorders, cognitive and language deficits caused by brain damage.
The impact of these RGS protocols has been well documented through a large number of clinical studies. This proven scientific grounding and clinical validation sets the RGS apart from all other products on the market. The RGS technology does not only help the patient, it also allows clinicians and health care providers to continuously monitor and assist the patient in their recovery process. The RGS technology thus provides for higher levels of care while lowering cost, serving all stake-holders in the rehabilitation process.
